Give Up GitHub!

I've started to slowly leave GitHub. I am in the process of moving my Git repositories to my own server at https://git.lcomrade.su/root

Reason 1. I want to take away Microsoft's power over open source projects. Yes, GitHub together with Microsoft provides a great environment for free software developers, but I am willing to sacrifice convenience for freedom. But keep in mind that Microsoft is first and foremost an American capitalist company which creates closed source software and watches over its users.

Reason 2. My socialist views. Microsoft, Google, Apple, Amazon, *Meta, and so on all have one thing in common: they are monopolists, all these capitalists profiting from us. Enough of this, it's time to step into the next round of history: socialism.

Reason 3. We all know that Russia is now conducting a special operation to denacify Ukraine. In my opinion, this "special operation" is no different from the military operations conducted by the United States. It's the same capitalist-encroachment war. But more to the point, people from Cuba, Crimea, Luhansk and Donetsk People's Republics cannot use GitHub, their accounts are simply blocked without the ability to download data. When is the next Russia? I don't want to sit on a steaming barrel and wait for it to blow up.

You should do the same. If you don't have your own server, you can use a public server based on free software. Here is a list:

Instance Uses
codeberg.org Gitea
notabug.org Gogs
